There’s no shortage of global reports on the most effective B2B lead generation channels, but those numbers don’t necessarily hold true for Vietnam. How an SMB in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City finds B2B customers can look very different from how a startup in the US or Europe does it, especially given how much Vietnamese business culture still relies on personal trust and existing relationships.
Before asking what you think, Sonix wants to share its own perspective and real data first, drawn from years of consulting on CRM implementation for SMBs. After that, we’d love for you to vote so we can build a more accurate picture of the Vietnamese market together.

Expert breakdown
4 common B2B lead channels: pros, cons and when to use each
Before you vote, here’s Sonix’s take on these 4 channels based on real work with SMB clients in Vietnam. Each channel has a different sweet spot depending on your stage of growth and business model:
| Channel | Strength | Limitation | Best fit when |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. Referral | Higher close rates and shorter sales cycles, since trust is already built through the person who referred you. | Hard to scale on demand, and depends heavily on the quality of work you’ve already delivered. | You already have happy customers and operate in an industry where personal reputation matters. |
| B. Social media | Builds durable brand and personal authority, low cost when done organically. | Takes time to show results and needs consistent content investment. | You want to build long-term brand awareness and have someone dedicated to content. |
| C. Cold email/call | Proactively reaches your exact target audience and gives you control over lead volume. | Low response rates without personalization, and can easily come across as intrusive. | You need to fill the pipeline quickly or test a new customer segment. |
| D. Event/webinar | Meets many qualified leads at once in person, making deeper personal connections easier. | High cost and effort to organize, and results depend heavily on how quickly you follow up. | You have a stable marketing budget and a sales team that can follow up promptly. |

Real data from Sonix: which channel is winning
For Sonix specifically, the picture is pretty clear: 70% of leads come from Referral, past clients recommending us to new ones after seeing real implementation results. 20% comes from LinkedIn, mostly through expertise-sharing content and networking with sales and operations professionals. The remaining 10% comes from Facebook, usually through business communities and posts sharing implementation experience. This pattern isn’t unique to Sonix: B2B referral marketing statistics consistently show that referred opportunities close at meaningfully higher rates than cold leads from other channels.
These numbers reflect the nature of B2B consulting: the decision to hire an implementation team usually requires trust that’s already been built, which is why referral still dominates. But the mix would almost certainly look different for a self-serve SaaS company or an agency built around paid ads, where cold outreach or paid social often carries a much larger share.
That’s exactly why Sonix wants to hear from you: industry, sales team size and sales cycle length all shape a very different lead-channel picture. There’s no single right answer for everyone, only the right answer for your specific business model.
Why it matters
Why this data matters when advising on CRM implementation
One of the first steps in Sonix’s CRM consulting process is understanding exactly where a client’s leads come from. If most leads come from referrals but the CRM has no field to capture “who referred whom,” the business loses the ability to measure its most important channel, and has no real data to build a proper referral rewards program on.
On the other hand, if leads mostly come from social media or cold outreach, the system needs to integrate tightly with marketing automation tools, tag campaigns with UTMs, and track every touchpoint before a lead turns into an opportunity. For events and webinars, the critical factor is follow-up speed: B2B event marketing research shows response rates drop sharply once the sales team fails to follow up within 48 hours of the event. In short, your lead channel should determine how your CRM is configured, not the other way around.
