Odoo Vietnam insights: what Sonix learned from Vietnamese SMBs after two months of content

Posted by Thảo Phạm

Two months into writing content about Odoo for Vietnamese SMBs, here’s the biggest Odoo Vietnam insight I’ve picked up: the audience teaches you more than you teach them. Every question, every comment, and even every post that got views but zero engagement was a signal about what SMBs in Vietnam actually think when weighing ERP behind familiar questions like “how much does it cost” or “how long will it take.” These are the 3 biggest lessons from the past two months, and they’re already reshaping how Sonix approaches both content and consulting.

💡 Core insight: None of the three lessons below came from a formal survey. They came from repeatedly listening to the same questions, objections, and hesitations from real Vietnamese SMBs across every post. That’s also the most important Odoo Vietnam insight of all: the most effective content isn’t the content that says the most it’s the content that answers the worry nobody wants to say out loud.

CONTEXT

Two months, one learning loop of Odoo Vietnam insights

From January through the end of February, Sonix published a content series spanning everything from basic concepts like “what is Odoo ERP” to specific case studies, cost comparisons, and live demo webinars. The original goal was educating the market helping Vietnamese SMBs understand what Odoo is and what it can do. But the more we wrote, the more the goal shifted: from “explaining the product” to “solving the exact worry that’s stopping people from deciding.” This approach lines up closely with what HubSpot recommends for content marketing rooted in real customer insight rather than one-way product promotion.

This shift didn’t come from a strategy meeting it came from observation: which posts got asked about again, which ones got shared, and more importantly, which ones got views but no response at all. The three Odoo Vietnam insights below are the direct result of that process.

LESSON #1

Vietnamese SMBs don’t fear cost they fear risk

The most common question over the past two months wasn’t “how much does Odoo cost” it was some version of a single question: “what if we implement it and it doesn’t work out?” Cost is a fixed number, easy to compare, easy to budget for. Risk is different it’s invisible, hard to quantify, and exactly for that reason, far scarier to the decision-maker.

Many SMBs have had a bad experience with a previous management tool, or heard about one from a peer in their industry. That fear doesn’t disappear just because you show a clear price sheet it only goes away once something proves that the risk has already been controlled before the contract is signed, not after.

“We don’t mind spending a few hundred more, but we can’t stand the idea of finishing a two-month rollout and having employees go right back to Excel. All that effort would be wasted.”

Applied lesson: content and consulting should sell certainty before features spell out the scope, the timeline, and what happens if a milestone slips, instead of just listing modules.

LESSON #2

“Employees won’t adopt it” is the biggest hidden fear

This worry rarely shows up directly in questions, but it shows up constantly in indirect ways: “our team is older and not tech-savvy,” “employees are used to Excel,” “I’m afraid we’ll buy it and nobody will use it.” All of it comes back to one issue: adoption, not the software itself.

Interestingly, posts about pure features (what Odoo can do) tended to get high views but shallow engagement. Posts about how employees actually use the system day to day like the case study of onboarding new hires in 2 days instead of 2 weeks got far more questions and shares.

Low resonance content: “How many modules does Odoo have, what does it integrate with” treats the software as a standalone product
High resonance content: “Company C’s new hires onboard in 2 days instead of 2 weeks” talks about the people using the software every day

Applied lesson: demos and content should focus on adoption real end-user experience rather than a feature list, because that’s what SMBs are actually worried about.

LESSON #3

CEOs want just one number: how soon ROI turns positive

In conversations with CEOs and final decision-makers, I noticed they don’t need a 10-criteria comparison table, and they won’t read a full whitepaper. They need one clear answer to one question: how long until this investment starts paying off? This “one number” approach lines up with how Gartner describes enterprise decision-making criteria for ERP leaders favor measurable metrics over qualitative descriptions.

Posts with concrete numbers time saved as a percentage, the drop in inventory discrepancy, the number of days shaved off onboarding consistently performed better than posts with vague benefits like “improved efficiency” or “optimized processes.”

“Don’t tell me Odoo will make my company ‘more efficient.’ Tell me exactly which month I’ll start seeing money come back.”

Applied lesson: always give a concrete number instead of a vague descriptor whether it’s time, a percentage, or an estimated ROI window based on real data.

LOOKING AHEAD

What this changes about how Sonix works

These three Odoo Vietnam insights aren’t just content takeaways they’re reshaping how Sonix advises and delivers projects for Vietnamese SMBs going forward: prioritizing implementation packages with clear scope and controlled risk, focusing on measuring and presenting real adoption outcomes instead of feature lists, and always pairing recommendations with a concrete ROI number from the very first consultation, instead of waiting until the end of the project to summarize results.
