Looking Back at 2 Months: What I Learned from Vietnamese SMBs About Salesforce

Posted by Sonix

Two months of posting content about Salesforce I thought I was teaching, but I was actually learning. Every comment, every message from Vietnamese SMB owners was a Salesforce Vietnam insight that no textbook could capture. After 2 months, here are the 3 most important lessons I took away and why they completely changed the way I talk about Salesforce.

Looking Back at 2 Months: What I Learned from Vietnamese SMBs About Salesforce3 lessons from Vietnamese SMBs when talking about Salesforce a 2-month retrospective

💡 Core Insight: Your audience doesn’t need you to explain what Salesforce is they need you to prove it won’t fail at their company.

LESSON 01

Vietnamese SMBs don’t fear cost they fear risk

When I asked what made people hesitate about Salesforce, the most common answer was not ‘the price is too high.’ The real answer was: ‘What if we go through the whole implementation and still can’t use it?’ a very specific, very Vietnamese concern, and a completely valid one.

According to Panorama Consulting, over 50% of enterprise software projects exceed budget or timeline a statistic Vietnamese SMBs have heard somewhere and remember for a long time. Selling features at this point is the wrong strategy; what they need to hear is certainty: a clear roadmap, concrete milestones, and controlled risk.

1

Replace ‘Feature X’ with ‘Risk Y eliminated’

Every feature should be packaged as a layer of protection, not an additional tool.

2

Share case studies from SMBs in the same industry and size

The story of ‘a company with 80 people just like yours pulled it off’ is more persuasive than any brochure.

3

Commit to checkpoints not vague outcome promises

Concrete 30–60–90 day milestones help SMBs feel in control of the journey.

LESSON 02

‘Employees won’t use it’ is the #1 fear about Salesforce

The question I received most in month 2: ‘How do you get the sales team to actually open Salesforce every day?’ This is the most important Salesforce Vietnam insight low adoption is not a technical problem, it’s a culture and user experience design problem.

Salesforce Research shows that organizations with adoption rates above 75% achieve ROI 2.4x faster than those below 50%. The lesson: don’t demo features demo a sales rep’s workday with Salesforce. They need to see that work becomes easier, not more complicated.

75%

Minimum adoption rate for ROI to be meaningful

2.4×

Faster ROI when adoption is high

#1

Biggest SMB fear when implementing a CRM

LESSON 03

CEOs only want 1 number: how long until positive ROI?

When talking with Vietnamese SMB CEOs, I realized they don’t need a 40-slide deck. They need to hear exactly one sentence: ‘For a company like yours, positive ROI typically appears after X months.’ That’s the language of a decision-maker, not a software vendor.

According to McKinsey, CEO-level decision makers prioritize payback period over any other technical KPI when evaluating software investments. The practical lesson: always prepare a specific number even an estimate with clear assumptions attached. A vague number is worse than no number at all.

Common way of saying itEffective way to say it to an SMB CEO
‘Salesforce improves sales performance’‘Your team of 10 sales reps can handle 30% more leads without hiring anyone new’
‘The ROI is great’‘For a business model like yours, positive ROI typically comes between months 8–12’
‘Many companies are already using it’‘An 85-person distribution company in Ho Chi Minh City broke even in 9 months here’s the breakdown’
